Field Technician Companion App

This app aims to be the Uber of field service technicians - Professionals who come over and fix our internet and television connection problems.

Electrician's Supplies

The Problem

There are plenty of skilled Field Service Technicians who work freelance. â€‹These technicians are having trouble finding customers and keeping track of their missions.

Basic tasks are scattered between different applications and platforms. There are often third party companies involved; buffering between the technician and the customer.

My Role

I entered this project at a very early stage in which a product manager at Amdocs, came up with the idea for the app. I conducted the research on my own and built a quick mock up as an internal proof of concept. The mock up design was heavily based on the research knowledge-base that the studio (myself included) maintain.

Use Case:
A freelance field technician accepts an incoming job opportunity. The job includes collecting some equipment and proceeding to fix the technical problem at the customer's residence.

Designing for Professionals on the Go

The main challenge in this phase was figuring out which information would be helpful for as many technicians as possible. Distinguishing between operational information and technical information at hand, was an important step in the process.

The technicians would need the operational info such as; where to go, what to bring and when to be there. The technical information, such as how to format a specific router mode is secondary because the user at hand is a professional.

What I Learned

Working quick and dirty with a powerful team can produce fantastic results. The team on this particular project consisted of a product manager, a solution engineer and myself. I feel like the enormous amount of decisions, good or bad, that we made during the short course of this 10-day collaboration led us to the best possible solution.
